Well, it stands for Microsoft Communications Unified Users Group London – a group formed by Unified Communication Professionals who are passionate about Microsoft Lync. The group meet quarterly to share their experience and best practice within the area.
This month (Monday 15th July), approximately forty attendees gathered in Central London to discuss, digest and debate. So, what were the ‘hot topics’ covered during this session?
Hot topics from the last MUCUGL meeting
Tom Arbuthnot, Senior Consultant at Modality focused on Call Recording Options for Lync, diving deep into the different technical models and products and pros and cons of each. Verba and a fellow competitor were both highlighted in this presentation.
Peter Jasko, who heads up business development in the UK felt Verba was presented in a positive light: ‘As our company has a call recording background, Verba’s interface is more intuitive for compliance teams to work with.’
Following on, Adam Jacobs, Global UC Architect, Polycom discussed what the Hybrid options are for mixing Lync on-prem with Lync on Office 365, including how split domain is architected.
And finally, Justin Morris, Consultant at Modality discussed how exactly Lync-Skype federation work and some of the gotchas.
A really good technically focused event
Peter felt it was an extremely informative and productive session: ‘It was a really good technically focused event covering interesting topics and good discussions around relevant areas.’

With London currently experiencing a mini heatwave at the moment, the session was followed by one of a different kind – with a few cool beers! It was a great opportunity to network and knowledge share, but the question is did anyone remember what was discussed at the end of the evening?
Cheers! Here’s to the next meet up!
