Danny Wilkinson, Market Surveillance Director, Raidne previously worked at the sharp end of London’s trading floors for over 25 years, and has been exposed to every conceivable facet of the trading and broking environment, witnessing the very best and worst that the trading room has to offer.
His exceptional career was derailed when the Serious Fraud Office arrested him for conspiracy to manipulate Libor fixings, with former client Tom Hayes. Danny spent 4 years defending himself and fighting to clear his name, finally being acquitted in January 2016.
Danny has worked on a consultative basis with Raidne Quantitative Surveillance since 2017 and recently took on the permanent position of Market Surveillance Director with the business. Raidne, ia an independent company that offers proprietary surveillance algorithms to monitor market manipulation and abuse. The collapse of Barings Bank and Nick Leeson’s role in it is one of the most spectacular debacles in financial history. When the bank collapsed in 1995, it was described by the media as a wake-up call and that something like this could never happen again. Yet, more than two decades later, there continue to be countless cases of rogue trading, financial scandal and corporate fraud in many industries around the world, from Jerome Kerviel at Societe Generale (2008) and Kweku Adoboli at UBS (2011) to the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Enron and more recent major corporate fraud such as the 2015 VW emissions scandal.Nicks story remains as relevant today as it ever has been. He offers a unique perspective about culture, conduct and ethics, systems, technology and controls, that surround regulations and regulatory compliance, as the former Barings Bank “Rogue Trader”.
